5 Tips to Choose Your Social Media Networks

    Choosing Your Social Networks

The amount of social media networks out there is staggering but how do you know which ones are right for your business? Social media can play a huge role in your brand but can seem a daunting task for business owners.

Let’s go over five tips to help you choose the right social networks for your small business.

What Are Your Social Media Goals?

Having defined goals for what you want your company to gain from social media will help you in your choice. Each social network is very different and brings different results to the table. Facebook, for instance, is for increasing brand awareness and lead generation. LinkedIn and Twitter, however, are more for networking with other influencers, and professionals.

What Networks Does Your Audience Use?

This question should make narrowing down your networks easier. Where does your target audience spend most of their time online? Millennials spend most of their time on Instagram and Snapchat. If you are targeting men, you might want to consider YouTube.

Here is a helpful Network Demographic.

What Networks Are Your Competitors Using?

Check out your competition. Follow them to see what they are doing and get ideas. Keeping an eye on them can also help you understand what is working or not working for them. Watching also helps you build and improve your own social media strategy.

What Kind of Content Will You Share?

Do you promote a lifestyle brand with more visual content, or maybe even blog? Then Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr might be the place for you. To help come up with what kind of content to create, think about your audience. What would they enjoy and also what are your strengths that would help you enjoy creating content?

How Many Networks Can You Manage?

With hundreds of social media sites to choose from it is important to remember you do not need them all. Choose the ones that are manageable for you to grow and build momentum. Working with clients, I typically recommend only starting with two then add later as they build their business.

    Keep building your brand!
